24 hours

Of complete separation from the hubby. Am I nuts for enjoying it sometimes? Munchkin gets my undivided attention until he goes to bed at 7:30pm and then the house is quiet.  Time to catch up on shows and a glass or 3 of wine.  Sometimes I like to have the girls over to watch our trashy shows and sometimes I just like the space to do whatever I want.

I'm still not used to having no one come home at night so it's still a little nerve racking when I have to deadbolt the door knowing noone is going to walk through it after. Little weird!

Back Up and Running

After a brief hiatus since June.... I've decided to re-open my etsy shop.  Since Todd has gone back to the fire house and I've been trying to keep myself busy as I do not have a scanner to sit and listen to everything thats going on...  I refuse to.  I know where he is and that he'll be home in the morning.  If he needs to talk about anything that happened he will.  Otherwise there is the news.  Luckily some of us, me included have children to keep us busy.  But what happens once they go to bed?  I can only watch so many re-runs of NCIS or SVU episode -- although I do like lots of Dinozzo, Gibbs and Stabler!

I was babysitting the other night and pulled up youtube and decided to teach myself how to make a hat.  Then yesterday I decided to learn how to make a flower.  A friend 'liked' something on etsy and I think I'll try that next.  I seem to be on a roll lately and I really want to keep it up.

Needless to say, there's plenty of things for me and my bucket o' yarn to craft up to put up on etsy and get back into it.  My coat closet in the house is filled with things that I have made to keep myself busy and they really need to be sold.

I need an outlet...

My husband was hired to the town fire department in June.  We had gone through EMT school, lots of studying and barely seeing him for 3 months.  Little did I know it was about to get worse.  He was at the fire house for 3 months.  During that we got used to the schedule of 24hrs on, 24hrs off, 24hrs on, and then 5days off.  My son and I had gotten a nice routine down.  Hubby got the news that he'd be starting the Fire Academy in October for 12 weeks with a graduation date of December 23rd -- Merry Christmas -- literally.  He got up at 4am, showered, dressed, made lunch and was out the door by 4:45am.  Jacob (our son) would be up shortly after that if not right after Todd's (hubby) alarm went off -- which made for a very long day.  Jacob is up with the sun and he doesn't understand the concept of  'roll over and go back to bed' yet.  Luckily we have a pretty busy schedule.  Between going to the gym, school, music class, the library, and other fun stuff, we stayed pretty busy.  Todd would get home anywhere from 5-5:30pm and would just be downright exhausted.  We would see him for a few hours -- dinner, bath and playtime for a bit and then most nights he'd study or go to bed when Jacob would.

I was pretty much a single mom for 12 weeks...

I'm a pretty creative person.  Always have, always will.  I like things that keep my hands busy and keep my mind occupied.  I finished a few books from the summer and then had a dry spell -- couldn't find anything I wanted to read or just lost interest.  I do this from time to time.  I make jewelry, blankets, quilts, scarfs, scrapbooks, cards, invitations and more.  It goes in spurts.  I'll do one for a few months and then pick something else up.  But I'm always doing something.

Currently working on : a blanket, making granny squares, a hat for a gift, and a book -- The Fireman's Wife.

Now that were back at the fire house and I'm back to two nights a week (sometimes more depending on overtime) I need to keep going!  Something for me. Quiet time if you will.  There is only so much playing with trucks, dinosaurs, play dough, kitchen, reading and kid play a mom can do...

Everyone needs an outlet...

The Beginning . . .

Hello!  I'm a Mother, a friend, and a Firemans' wife.  We are from a small town North of Boston -- Marblehead, MA.  We have a beautiful little boy who is turning 4 in February. (Thank God were leaving the 3's).  He keeps a smile on my face, keeps me grounded (sometimes), and is my reason to keep going.  My husband and I have been together for 5 years and married for 7 months.  We are a very active family and love going on new adventures everyday.

OK -- enough about them....  I am 25 years old.  I love to be on the water.  If I can't -- I'll go look at it.  I crew on on 81 foot sail boat out of Marblehead. I love to ride my bike and Rollerblade.  Something about the wind rushing by my face... It must have to do with sailing too.  I have been in this town my whole life.  People would call people like me 'Townies'  but -- I'm not.  I've left and lived in different towns just to get out.  My mother is a 'Townie'.  She moved from West Hartford, CT, met my father and hasn't left. Lets put it this way -- she bought a new car in 2003 and it has 26,000 miles on it.  She doesn't leave town. And if we do, I drive, or my father.  Any who -- I have worked at many YMCA's, the JCC in town, and taken care of lots of children.  I guess you could say I'm a customer service, childcare extraordinaire.  I love to be around people and hate to be by myself.  Right now my main focus is taking care of the little man.  We also babysit for 3 families to keep us busy.

I hear wonderful things about being part of a blogging community and I hope I like it.  I really like to write but journals don't talk back... Sometimes it's nice to get some feedback that a piece of paper can't give me.  I look forward to meeting people and seeing what this is all about!
